Our history
Daniel George Stevens (1927) founded D.G.S. (Grinding Wheels & Machines) Limited in 1967. A factory manufacturing abrasive cutting-off wheels was created in Stockport and distribution was organised through a Wolverhampton warehouses and offices. In 1973 a Southern division was established in Portsmouth, which has since diversified into all areas of abrasive media.
In 1980 a woodworking factory was acquired in Stafford producing niche products related to the Crystal Glass and High Street Jewellery trade. D.G.S. products were complimentary to leading brands such as Waterford, Royal Brierley, Edinburgh and Stuart Crystal.
Most of Britain’s leading stores such as Harrods, Fortnum & Masons, Garrards and Mappin & Webb stocked D.G.S. products at some point.
The D.G.S. Group of Companies is now a well established sales and distribution operation with over 40 years experience in the trade with over 10 employees having been part of this friendly family company for all of their working careers.
Daniel Stevens was a keen bowler who was spurred on to found a division within the DGS Group for the Crown Green Bowling sales operations due to the lack of good retail facilities at that time. He opened a small showroom in 1999 intending to serve the local market around Wolverhampton but word soon got around and people were travelling from all over the UK due to our policy of holding good stocks. A website quickly followed and the crowngreenbowler.co.uk was launched and has been very successful ever since. We now have over 4000 products in stock all of the time!
Our showroom is now based just on the outskirts of Wolverhampton in Lanesfield. You have the ability to see the large product range at first site and be tempted to a raft of very useful accessories to enhance your bowling experience. Our team is very knowledgeable and will be able to guide and support you in your purchasing experience. All have been involved with the Crown Green Bowling store and website from its start over 25 years ago and have a wealth of knowledge/experience of the products we stock.
